ARCHITECTURAL DOCUMENTATION OF KALYAN MAHAL, THIRUVAIYARU

Project Brief

On the bank of river Kaveri, the palace of Kalyan mahal is situated, Thiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu is known as a place for Sacred  music and Traditions.


The Palace resembles a mix of native Architecture from Thanjavur with few elements of Colonial Architecture, 'The Maratha Vaults' possed by palace are the most highlighting and unique feature of its Architecture.


Team Sakha was commissioned by a local NGO  to document the palace along with conducting awareness and educative programs among the residents within the place.

CONSERVATION STRATEGIES FOR ANCIENT TEMPLE AT DEOTAK, CHANDRAPUR

Project Brief

Deotak, meaning the hillock of Gods, is a small village but with an ancient significance located Brahmapuri tahsil, lying 6.43 km, (four miles) north-east of Nagbhid and around 96kms (sixty miles) from Nagpur.


It has one small temple and the remains of numerous archaeological remains, one of them is a stone slab containing significant inscription 


The stone slab containing two distinct inscriptions, the characters of one being of the kind known as those of the Asoka edicts and those of the other belonging to the Vakataka period. Both of them are fragmentary but mention a name Cikambari, which is modern-day Cikmara, a village close to Deotak. The slab has now been removed to the Nagpur Museum


Team Sakha was commissioned by ASI Nagpur circle, the documentation and condition mapping  and site development of this significant Ancient Temple.

Centuries. The fort is an example for the unique Architecture possed by Baghelkand region with few traces of Mewar Architecture and Colonial Architecture.

Studio Sakha is commissioned by Wildlife and Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd to workout conservation strategies towards the adaptive reuse of fort as a heritage hotel.

St Francis of Assi, old goa

Project Brief

Goa, setling up on the Arabian sea on its west and the series of Western ghats on its east is
Said to be the most beautiful place ever built under the reign of Portuguese.

St. Francis convent and church, is one from the significant list from World Heritage Site of Churches and convents of Goa

Built in mid17th century the church stands as an Excellent example of Portuguese Churches in Goa, having its exterior is of the Tuscan Order while the main entrance is in Manuline style. The main altar has delicate wood work styled in Baroque with Corinthian features. There are no aisles but only a nave, the church posses extensive volumes supported by rib-vaults.

The report  addresses the concerns of the impact of the proposed layout of Gurudev Nagar near  the mound on which the modern temple of Jagannath stands and the heritage and  archaeological values of the ancient mound should be the prime concern for any  intervention/ development in and around the heritage components.
